There is also a response (again in Part 1, answering a question about why the candidate enjoys travel) during which the candidate clearly struggles to produce a coherent reply and long pauses are recorded &#8211; but this is an atypical\u00a0turn\u00a0in what\u00a0is overall a very fluent performance.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Connectives are widely and effectively used and indicate a grasp of less common terms (e.g.\u00a0<i>as opposed to<\/i>)<i>.<\/i>\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLEXICAL RESOURCE\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Despite a tendency to produce short responses in Part 1, in the more challenging Part 2 and Part 3, there is ample evidence of an ability to talk on a topic at length.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is also evidence of an ability to use less common vocabulary, and while the overall performance is not rich in such language, the natural production of words like\u00a0<i>ponder\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>torso\u00a0<\/i>and of idiomatic collocations like\u00a0<i>seasonal thing\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0<i>on top of a trend\u00a0<\/i>suggest a deeper reservoir of lexis that the candidate has not fully accessed during the test.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGRAMMATICAL RANGE AND ACCURACY \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>A range of complex grammatical structures is used accurately and flexibly. This includes complex verb groups with continuous and perfect tenses (sometimes in the passive voice) and a full range of subordinate clauses, sometimes used in combination\u00a0without a loss of fluency or accuracy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are some basic errors, such as the singular\u00a0<i>woman\u00a0<\/i>for\u00a0<i>women,\u00a0<\/i>but\u00a0the message is always\u00a0clear\u00a0and most sentences are error-free.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Occasionally, the candidate produces a string of\u00a0simple,\u00a0repetitive structures (e.g.\u00a0<i>I like to play tennis; I like to play piano, etc. &#8211;\u00a0<\/i>and at another time &#8211;\u00a0<i>They like to go to the Peak; they like to go to Victoria Harbour &#8230;. They like to take the Star Ferry)\u00a0<\/i>but the level of complexity elsewhere indicates that this does not result from a limited range of structures.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPRONUNCIATION \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h5>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Overall, the candidate&#8217;s pronunciation\u00a0is very accurate.
