Yeah, designer clothes are\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0really rarely seen. Yeah.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E: Why are\u00a0designer bags popular?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S:\u00a0I\u00a0think it&#8217;s because it&#8217;s more long-lasting,\u00a0like you\u00a0can, you can actually just wear it out a lot more compared to clothes\u00a0where it&#8217;s a really seasonal thing. And I think\u00a0designer bags are generally more worth it in terms of money\u00a0when\u00a0you spend money on it.\u00a0Yeah.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E:\u00a0For those people who do buy and wear designer clothes\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0as you suggested\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0expensive, what motivates them to do that?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S: What motivates them to, you mean what motivates them to buy\u00a0designer clothes?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E: Yes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S: I think to be able to show to other people that they have the ability to afford them. They&#8217;re capable that\u00a0they maybe\u00a0have a\u00a0really\u00a0stable job.\u00a0They can afford it. That really motivates them.\u00a0I think\u00a0they also &#8230; in Hong Kong, especially trends\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0to show people that you&#8217;re on top of a trend or that you have the most\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0the latest showpiece that is on, that is on\u00a0display in a designer store is what motivates them to buy these designer clothes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E:\u00a0So\u00a0it doesn&#8217;t really have very much to do with what they actually think of the clothes themselves?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S: I think it\u00a0does, but it doesn&#8217;t really\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0it&#8217;s &#8230;\u00a0the proportion isn&#8217;t\u00a0as\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0large or\u00a0I think\u00a0they might like the clothing, but I\u00a0think they might like the brand\u00a0more\u00a0or the feeling that it brings them\u00a0as\u00a0opposed\u00a0to the clothing itself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E: Let&#8217;s turn\u00a0now\u00a0to the kind of clothes people wear to work. Do you think that people at work make judgments about their colleagues based on the kind of clothes\u00a0they wear?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S:\u00a0If you mean by judging by age, then\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0like judging how old they are,\u00a0they are,\u00a0then yes.\u00a0I do\u00a0feel like\u00a0in the workplace, how you dress yourself can really reveal\u00a0the\u00a0age that you are at, but I think it also shows how confident of a person you are,\u00a0especially for woman.\u00a0Obviously,\u00a0guys\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0you&#8217;re\u00a0all\u00a0dress in suit, but for woman if\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0whether\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0how revealing on your dress\u00a0is\u00a0or how revealing on your outfit is\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0can really show how confident of a person you are\u00a0and\u00a0how\u00a0people can judge by your outfit in the\u00a0workplace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E: Should people be forced by their employer to wear certain types of clothes to work?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S: I think it really depends on your\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0the nature of your job. I think if you&#8217;re in,\u00a0like,\u00a0a really formal setting, then obviously, there should be requirements, because it&#8217;s a form of respect that you respect the people you&#8217;re seeing,\u00a0you respect\u00a0the company that you&#8217;re working in. But I feel like if it&#8217;s not\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0if you&#8217;re not going to attend\u00a0a\u00a0meeting with\u00a0a really special person, then by all\u00a0means\u00a0you can\u00a0dress whatever you&#8217;re comfortable in. Yeah. There shouldn&#8217;t be a limit to that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E: So,\u00a0in\u00a0Hong Kong, do you think that companies tend to be quite demanding about what people wear to work?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S: Yeah, I feel like as I&#8217;ve grown older and just kind of semi,\u00a0semi-stepping into the job field\u00a0like\u00a0in\u00a0an\u00a0internship position,\u00a0I kind of feel pressured to dress like them because if I dress less formal, then I\u00a0feel\u00a0like\u00a0&#8216;oh, I&#8217;m not respecting the opportunity that I&#8217;ve been given&#8217;\u00a0or, I feel like just stepping onto the MTR,\u00a0you see a lot of people\u00a0just wearing\u00a0suit and just wearing\u00a0really formal dresses and you feel like,\u00a0&#8216;oh,\u00a0am I under dressed?&#8217;,\u00a0as &#8230;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>E:\u00a0Is it\u00a0changing in Hong Kong, the way that people dress\u00a0for\u00a0work?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>S: I don&#8217;t think so\u00a0actually.\u00a0I think\u00a0that &#8230;\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0maintain\u00a0a really high standard. You never see a person under-dress for work, or\u00a0maybe\u00a0&#8230;\u00a0if the weather is\u00a0slightly\u00a0odd, then they may be wearing trainers to\u00a0come into work and then changing into,\u00a0say,\u00a0dress shoes\u00a0for woman when they get to work.
